The Greater Victoria Women’s Shelter Society
The Greater Victoria Women’s Shelter Society (GVWSS) was incorporated in May 1986 to provide shelter and support to women, and their children, with special housing and crisis needs. The Society has a strong commitment to feminist principles. It is governed by its constitution and “…believes that adequate housing is a fundamental right for all persons regardless of circumstances.”
The first priority of the GVWSS is the provision of second-stage housing for women, and their children, who are leaving abusive relationships.
Margaret Laurence House opened in 1995 and continues to provide six rental units, counselling and support to women, and their children, who are leaving abusive relationships.
